14 years after the first airing of the first live-action adaptation of the popular comedy-drama manga, Great Teacher Onizuka, written by Tohru Fujisawa, the popular jdrama will be having a remake and will start this July. The live action remake was confirmed to start airing on July in Fuji TV every Tuesday after 10:00 pm.
AKIRA of EXILE will be playing the role of the ex-biker gang leader turned teacher Eikichi Onizuka. The 1998 live-action version of Onizuka was played by Japanese actor and singer Takashi Sorimachi. The picture below show AKIRA(left) and Takashi Sorimachi(right), the two faces of Eikichi Onizuka.
Miori Takimoto (Ikemen Desu Ne, Hungry!), a former member of the now-disbanded Japanese idol group SweetS, will be playing the role of the beautiful Azusa Fuyutsuki-sensei. The character of Fuyutsuki-sensei of the first GTO live-action version was played by Japanese actress and model Nanako Matsushima (The Ring) who is currently married to Takashi Sorimachi.
