Rohm, together with Aqua Fairy and Kyoto University developed a high-powered but compact Hydrogen fuel cell which can generate electricity which can be used in many purposes from charging smartphones to providing backup power in emergencies and outages.
From a sheet with volume of less than 3 cc, this fuel cell can generate 5 Whr of electricity by producing Hydrogen through chemical reaction.
A larger version can also serve as a portable generator used in outdoors or emergency power which are also more eco-friendly compared to engine generators which are producing CO2 and harmful fumes.
Currently, Rohm is doing market surveys, with the aim of releasing commercial versions in spring 2013. Check out the video below for more details of the technology.
